# Cheers Sir
took quite some time..
masking Blair was a pain (when working in high-resolution) and new image editors which don't allow scanning of banknotes is a real problem.
I kept an old copy of PSP for scanning notes but it looks like the new scanner software has protection built in for that as well :-(

# Last time I looked, the Powers that Be...
(and I can't remember who they are, sorry: if I can find a link I'll edit / followup)
had an excellent web-page spelling out exactly what the boundary of the law is on reproductions of banknotes in art, with lots of constructive and helpful advice on how to include recognisable banknotes in your art (etc) without breaking the law.

Hooray for legal clarity! I'll try to find it...

# Cheers
The problem is that the software makers are all now including programs that recognise banknotes which stops you scanning them or working altering them.
Best solution is to take photos of the notes at different angles rather than head on.

# it's more the anti-fraud measures in the notes themselves
than the scanners.

someone posted it on here, but there's a barely perceptible (to the naked eye) pattern of dots on all modern UK banknotes (easier to see on the Merkin notes) which is based around either the northern or southern cross constellation.

scanners are pre-programmed to recognise this pattern and stop scanning.

i think there should be an option to print a massive "VOID" watermark across the note as it is scanned, thus not impeding work like yours, but stopping outright fraud

# ah, ha ha ha
Treacherous memory: I can't find it now :-( All I can find is this from the Bank of England: http://www.bankofengland.co.uk/banknotes/reproducing_banknotes.htm.

The tone is not as 'constructive and helpful' as I remember: they currently ask you to apply for permission.

You may not like the answers, but at least you should be able to get them easily, thanks to the Central Bank Counterfeit Deterrence Group (CBCDG).

(No, I have no idea who they are either).
