How do you find out the amount of different colour intensities (greyscale) there is in Photoshop for a particular image?

# Not quite sure of the answer but I know that if you go into
the Color Picker in Photoshop there is 100 variations between White to Black as it's set in percentages which is the B-Channel of the (H)ue - (S)aturation - (B)lack panel - so the answer would be 100 greyscales independant of the number bits in the image.
