# Who wants to help fight YouTube censorship?
Comment on this, also rate it, favourite it and post a Video Response.

You can watch them alter the stats in realtime.
The view count hasn't changed in hours.

# Erm, since when did youtube become the property
of anyone bar youtube?
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:38, archived)
# but but!! it's for the people of youtube! they made it !!!eleven!!!11!11one!!

# Google owned.
It's a total sham now.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:46, archived)
# So with it being owned by Google,
does that mean you own it any more?
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:47, archived)
# The stat manipulation is what I disapprove of.
Well I'm off now
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:50, archived)
# But why are you so convinced of this?
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:52, archived)
# because it's a reality
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:55, archived)
# it's also a fact that youtube view counters don't update in real time
sometimes taking hours, if not a day or so, to upload new figures.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 20:00, archived)
# actually I may take it all/some back
as I've just seen a comment stupid enough to make me just stare out of the window drooling.

# it's not the stupidest thing I've ever heard in my life (nothing has yet surpassed that)
"Very cool. They used to experiment with video feedback to capture spirits of the dead. Google video feeback and ghosts! "

# youtube, owned by google
google, replete with fun from TLA organisations

youtube fixes viewing results and "innapropriate" comments

good luck with your vain hope

# what are they censoring ?
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:43, archived)
# They alter the view counts of most politically-related videos.
This can be seen very clearly on the one above.

Views: 13,665 - Impossible it's gone viral worldwide, plus the guy has 36,000 subscribers.

Text Comments: 2,054
Views: 13,665 - This ratio to comments is insane.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:45, archived)
# Is that despite the fact that the whole purpose of the video
is to get people to comment on it?
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:49, archived)
# It can't be seen at all from that link
views - 13,665 to comments 2054 - so?
does there have to be a strict ratio figure before it passes from the realm of 'accepted true viewings' to 'suspected tampered viewing fiugures'?
And how 'viral' has this gone exactly? For my two penneth I've not seen or heard about it until now, and from what I've seen, you've only linked to it today on b3ta.

Show me proof that they doctor comments, or at the very least, give me a backed up evidential argument before
coming out with phrases that suggest you know for certain they do this.
Sources please fella - you know we like 'em :)

# the problem is that youtube really does lock the viewing totals on videos
you'll see the occasional video that has comments consisting of

person1: it's at 15325
person2: it's still at 15325
person3: wtf it's at 15325
person4: it's 15325...

for hundreds of people

some folk get twitchy when they see stuff like that
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:54, archived)
# Ahhh, I see.
Youtube is life. Youtube is reason to get upset.
At. The. Internet.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:56, archived)
# no, not at all
I think that something selling itself as a great opt in community that basically is full of shit is what annoys people.

it doesn't matter if it's in print, online, or what someone told you in the pub if it's demonstrably full of crap people do have a right to get upset, but I guess if it's on the internet as it's just pretend, oh well guess it's not worthy of any kind of note at all.

# But hasn't there always been a delay
at times for stats updating?

That doesn't necessarily mean they are holding it down....
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 20:00, archived)
# ah well
as long as folk click on the adverts :)
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 20:06, archived)
# Look at the 'Honors' on the video. Plus the other stuff I mentioned, oop there
Yes, that ratio is abnormal.

Plus several comments are being deleted on that very video, and not offensive ones.

Right, back to it.

# pretty much everything
apart from blatant and prosecutable copyright violations

oddly

# i'm in favour
of more censorship for youtube comments
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 19:52, archived)
# hahaha, a fair, valid and well made point there.
(, Wed 3 Dec 2008, 20:01, archived)
