in fact, the German invasion of Russia in 1941 is believed to be down to a faulty sat nav, they just wanted to go to Tescos for some munchies

All the removed railings etc weren't actually used for the war effort, as the metal was of no use and little value for use in armaments etc, it was just a propaganda exercise. They were just secretly dumped instead
