It happened to my brother'sHe phoned Microsoft and they paid to ship it to Frankfurt, fix it for him and post it back. Took about a week.

Stupid-sounding but absolutely serious comment:try using IE if you're not already doing so. Some sections of MS's site will only work properly on IE
