for large groups of things doing stuff and dying (a-la LOTR) CGI is very good - for anything else it's poor (unless the whole thing is CGI).
Perhaps actors act better with puppets.

no - now Yoda is a collection of pixels it's impossible to care about in the slightest
... also - he jumps about too much.
