# It's not controversial, it's just flawed concept.
All 'overrated' means is you don't like something as much as lots of other people.

# So, tastes in music have no basis in objective reality?

# Scientifically God's own truth...

# Hahahaha taking it seriously FTW
To my taste the adulation of the Beatles is disproportionate to their worth.

But of course it's subjective - as all such matters are. One cannot argue that a band is "good" or "bad" but only to one's taste or not.

EG Clodplay, REM, U2, The Smiths, The Killers etc

# yeah but only one of the above bands are good ;)

# My money's on The Smiths.
Early / mid range REM is good too. Aaargh. Opinion on the internet. It'll never work.

# So, there is no such thing as good music?
(, Mon 26 Jan 2009, 16:32, archived)
# yeah.
It's just a shame none of you clods listen to it ;)

# So agreements about the worth of a piece of music are meaningless?
(, Mon 26 Jan 2009, 16:38, archived)
# meaningless no
worthless in themselves in terms of the musical content they are discussing.. perhaps... as the music is not effected by your opinion of it.

whether you think it's bad or good.. it just is.
(, Mon 26 Jan 2009, 16:44, archived)
# Eh what?
Good thing too, I don't want my music collection to be changed by the force of popular opinion.
(, Mon 26 Jan 2009, 16:49, archived)
# nope
save that for readers of NME
(, Mon 26 Jan 2009, 17:05, archived)
# Well I think arguments about music are pointless for competely different reasons.
i.e. it's not subjective, it's just intractable.
(, Mon 26 Jan 2009, 17:14, archived)
# Although I don't actually believe this.
I think it's possible to have the wrong taste in music. And in fillum, too.

For example - if you prefer the remake of Hallowe'en to the John Carpenter original, you are wrong.

If you prefer listening to Clodplay to watching your entire family be slaughtered with extreme prejudice in their own beds, at night, in their own homes, you are wrong.
