We've had a problem with tiger lillies in our garden since we moved in the house about 1 years ago. Not only do they spread underground, but if you let them seed, the seed pods explode and scatter the seeds everywhere. They really do explode, too. I used to think it was kids throwing stones over the wall.
Nuke the site from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.

You'll have a job - you need a good garden fork and you'll have to dig out every bit of the root system every time one appears.
You'll have got rid of them in about 2 years.
I just got my garden looking perfect after 4 years and then I moved :(
