He's very good at what he does. Doesn't mean I have to like what he's done or how he's done it.
Microsoft made PCs a viable, cheap, multi-vendor platform by basically fucking everybody they dealt with. Somebody probably had to, so well done, especially since they fucked over IBM at the point that IBM was the computer company. The way they try to hang on to their position isn't nearly as admirable.

1. MS-DOS (where they got it, how they sold it to IBM, how that went on).
2. the "MS tax" making it economic nonsense to sell computers without MS operating systems. (They old one - where manufacturers could only get decent prices for windows if they paid per computer sold - regardless of if it shipped with windows or not - that was stopped because it was deemed abuse of a monopoly position).
3. the way they dealt with Netscape, which was part smart business sense, but contained quite a bit of monopolistic abuse.
