# There were parts of that show,
and throughout the series, that have been brilliant, but so much of it is gone now. It was like when Ben Elton made a brief comeback in the 90s. Not as funny without Thatcher.

However, for his PC gone mad skit, he will forever go down in history.

I encourage everyone to somehow watch or listen to his three most famous shows; 41st Best Stand Up Ever, Stand Up Comedian and 90s Comedian. They're all brilliant.

All three comedians work on the basis of slagging off a common enemy.

None are terribly funny, they just say 'The government are cunts' and et a cheer. Thomas is the worst of the three. Frankly I do not see the appeal at all.

Elton writes excellent insightful novels though.

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying the current government are perfect, far from it, but compared to the Thatcher years, it is not so easy to all gang up on one hate figure.

# The trouble with a lot of government
criticism, comedic or not, is that it's based upon blaming the 'government' for things that were going to happen anyway and that as government they had no control over the outcome.
It's better to see how they deal with the situations thrown at them and then judge.

We had a huge national debt
The unions were so powerful that it was out of hand
People kept on hijacking planes
PIRA kept bombing folk.
