Download the program HijackThisAnd google for a tutorial. You'll need to use HijackThis to get a log, then find someone willing to expolain what each process is/whether it's a problem (there are some forums dedicated to it). You can work it out yourself by googling each one but it'd be better to get an expert's help.

Thanks :)I'll try a few standard bits and pieces, make sure it isn't something easily and quickly solvable, then I'll be getting around to pretty much this. I'm so tired this weekend, I only just managed to bite my tongue on some serious grumpiness when I realised I was probably going to have to be jumping through these kind of hoops!
