I've noted that once technology provided full protection from
pitchforks and torches the poor became the easier target. For
only a brief window in time, the age of revolutions, was there
a chance for the rabble to affect change of any kind. Now they
all ride in armoured cars and have blastproof glass windows.

Perhaps a similarity in attitude. We've got enough wildness still around,
and the climate, that can snuff you quite quickly. So it seems to limit
the need to get shirty with our nobs. Or them with us, so far. Minority
governments and economic factors beyond our control also help keep
them from getting too high on their horses.
