I looked around at the kind of sofa I wanted, DFS had it cheap then took 3 months to deliver it, so I'm not singing their praises.

you fail to make a payment on time? Someone posted on QOTW how they worked for a company who offered 0% finance, their job was to analyse all your credit history to judge when they send reminders, it was most likely for you to miss a payment.
Whilst you maybe good with your finances, many are not.
DFS do not sell sofas they sell credit disguised as sofas. Which is why the sofas tend to be quite poorly made.
