# Hey
Just noticed that the b3ta server time is an hour slow - it isn't a M$ server is it? (_!_)

A few years ago, a bug came to light when the clocks changed (I think it was the October change).
Microsoft had written into their code that the date should change on the fourth Sunday in October/March. However, it changes on the last Sunday in October/March so, one year, there happened to be five Sundays in and everybody whose systems ran a M$ server as the time server (instead of using ntp like the rest of the planet) was an hour out for a whole week (which doesn't sound a lot but if you need to know that actual time for something like system monitoring/ email and so on, it is important). It was also extremely embarrassing for M$.

# IIRC with it being on a US server
b3tan time is set manually what with the US having different DST dates.

The clock isn't changed on b3ta until enough people pester rob bitch and whine about it.

# Why not just use UTC or GMT?
Okay, so at the moment, it is in GMT and UTC whereas we are in BST.
Every computer on my home network as the right time on it and it changes automatically - including leap seconds when needed (I've watched it out of curiosity, it goes 58, 59, 60, 00, 01,02 and so on when adding a leap second so it really does work)

# Yes - someone noticed at last.
Like all of the best emoticons, it is all done with the shift held down and (_!_) even has it's own little ring-piece at the bottom of the exclamation mark.
