...and that was the sound of an article going over my head. I felt like there was a big gap in the story....Do we not get a decent explanation of how is theory works? Or at least a summary fit for a lamen.

Took me too long to work out what lamen meant.
You could research everything using Google, but the reality is 'Very complex - check the pretty image out though!' will have to suffice.
