The interviewee is the person calling it an "automatic rifle". I suggest you take up the matter with her. You'll soon find out whether people on the wrong end of it consider the distinction to be important.

You're right, the distinction is ludicrous and only really used by politicians to fear monger.
The only distinction is cosmetic, i.e. does it look "scary". It has nothing to do with caliber or semi vs. fully automatic.

Nor the fact that it's only a semi-automatic.
The scary thing is that any fucking fucked-up fuckhead can get hold of an assault rifle at the drop of a hat. Your gun laws are quite literally arming terrorists.

I think AK-47s are illegal in France, yet that didn't really stop anything did it?
And with the voter registration drive at the southern border, narco, sex slave and arms traffickers are having a field day (I'm not even mentioning the arms sent by the current administration to Mexico, resulting in the death of at least one federal agent and thousands of Mexicans - that was supposed to make guns look bad). I know of no other country so negligent with their own borders. Maybe Europe...
When people speak of the muslims, they say, "we can't generalize for political advantage", but don't seem to have the same muzzle for their anti-gun rules.
And neither the laws on the books, nor the laws that the president recommends would have stopped this nutcase. Only left more law abiding people without a means to defend themselves.
