I find this quote from the article you linked a reasonable suggestion for someone who is in charge of a nation's security.

That is exactly the critical bit, and you allude to it - until the country's representatives can figure it out.
The US has had a number of mass killings due to Islamic terror. It seems reasonable to slow the influx of people from known terrorist countries, especially since ISIS has stated repeatedly that they are putting terrorists in with the flow of refugees.
Please tell me how stopping the import of people until we can assure that they will not kill the people who are offering them a respite is racist?

If the current administration were doing their job
we wouldn't be having these conversations. Regardless of right or wrong on any side.
I fail to see how the situation is going to get better as it's just got worse and worse since 2009.
I'm not saying Trump is the answer, but I would say Hillary won't make it much better. She's even losing the election, against Trump.

And yes, to discriminate against a religion is illegal in the US (that pesky "Constitution" you guys keep railing against forbids it).
However, there is nothing that prohibits the executive from assuring that immigrants coming from any specific country are not threats to the safety and security of the country.
