It's an interesting argument.
I thought the reason why people dislike plastic bags is a lot of them end in waterways and the ocean where they are bad for wildlife. i don't think carbon footprints are really thought about.

That's one reason, sure.
Unfortunately, this article looks like it could be used to convince people that the 5p bag tax should be dropped. The best thing about the bag tax is that it encourages people to reuse their bags.

Well funnily enough
I did used to reuse my bags. Now I have to go and buy fucking bags instead that I would have previously got for free.
Secondly, that 5p is going to charity, so that's okay then. Only which charity? Donkey sanctuary? Distressed air hostesses? The Association for the Care of Convicted Rapists? A donation is voluntary. If you're forced to donate, then it's a stealth tax.
