That's an impressive level of reverse engineering
Assuming they didn't have access to the original design/code. The frame rule reminded me of some work I did testing channel change times on digital TV - depending on when you land on a channel it can take quite a long time for the first I-frame to arrive, which is the first self-contained frame that can be displayed. Hence the sometimes sluggish behaviour when scanning through channels.
