It was about the same time as Star Trek, one of the last things to be filmed in black & white. I think it looks better that way.
It's quite talky, but well worth a watch.

Charming set design
I spotted a travel iron in front of the helmsman’s console, some beer taps and misc bathroom fittings elsewhere.
Yet the crew (apart from the women) would all have been at home on days boot. Especially that fat obvious war criminal.
