May isnt dim and knows how deep the shit is we're all in and has done all along. I'd rather have someone with some awareness of that in charge on balance. Even if she doesnt have the faintest idea how to get us out of it

Think you are being a bit generous about TM there.
She most likely knows, but does not care, that maybe makes her worse? I don't want to set this up as competent evil vs incompetent evil as neither of them appear to have any competence at all, maybe May is skilled at somehow keeping her job, that seems to be about it.

From this distance (US) that does seem to be the case, but even in that I see incompetence. She's only keeping her job right now because no one else really wants it. All the no-dealers need to do to get their way is to keep disrupting the process, and there's no personal risk or cost in that. That's probably a fairly obvious analysis, I'm very much out of the loop, there's enough going on here to worry about :)
