This is a normal post I'd much rather see these in bus/train stations than their digital successors.
But I'd imagine there's a good reason that they aren't commonplace any more (upkeep costs, most likely). I certainly don't like them enough to pay a higher ticket price just to have them back.

Plus, fucking Hipsters...

This is a normal post Yeah, pretty much upkeep & power consumption of an electromechanical system, difficulty in interfacing with modern IT systems, inflexibility in what can be displayed, etc.
This is a really interesting insight into what it takes to keep a split-flap display running in a Polish train station.

This is a normal post I wouldn't mind a wall clock made with these.
That shouldn't be too pricey, and probably possible to DIY if you can lay your hands on some old parts and you're handy with Arduinos and the like.

I think I'd prefer the ones that flip horizontally for a clock, though.

This is a normal post You can buy flip clocks
For about £3 imported from China, but they only drop one flap at a time, so they’re not quite as fun...

This is a normal post when all’s said and done, though,
if we’re being honest,
it’s a bit shit.
