This is a normal post I was called a retard a lot as a kid in the UK.
Probably because those kids had not levelled up to racism yet.

In any case, it never harmed me because I'm only on the Gallic spectrum.

But if I was on the easy to offend spectrum, at least 10% of the words in the English dictionary
can be used to denigrate Frogs directly of by unsubtle metaphors, so I should advocate for their removal.

Pretty silly position, even for a cheese fucker.

I advocate the use of intelligence, and seeing out small numbers here, that is a manageable option:

If a fat 45 year old retard calls a obese 43 year old retard a "retard"... From the sanctity of their respective mums basement.
Even a real educationally challenged person would think "retards" and get a chuckle.

But if educationally challenged person comes and posts their cobbled together reviews of chips packets,
calling that person names such as "retard" is obnoxious, unfunny and hurtful to that educationally challenged person.
So don't call him "retard" duh.

And as an aside, there are far better insults such as "cock wobble", "Vegemite lover" etc.

So boys and grown men; be smart.

This is a normal post How to have extreme angry insulting language without upsetting someone is oxymoronic and unfeasible. .
Some elements of humour are based on the 'wrongness' of the concept/delivery.
Actual use depends on who is using them, the audience and why they are used.

This is a normal post well it is possible you free felinae fiend.
And just saying "crumpet" probably is deeply
insulting to someone, somewhere, who is both
gluten intolerant, of the finer sex and hot.

So not to be found on this board.

Banning speech instead of promoting education is
a very slippery slope to Newspeak (this is not
meant to be an insult to slick criminals and
Asians)

Please go to an airport and shout "I have a bomb, I'm gonna kill everyone, allahu akbar".
Let me know how that goes.
But free speech eh?

This is a normal post Erm
My dear chap, that's were the education part
comes into effect. I know that this action is
both unfunny and offensive.

But if I was to walk into the workshop on a Friday near closing time with cold beers taped to my nearly naked body, shouting the same thing
THAT would be funny.

Got to go, my son is crying, probably lost his pacifier - AGAIN.

This is a normal post So nobody should say anything that might offend somebody.
No discretion, no allowances, no exceptions.

Or "smelly cheese loving peace Kermit".

But don't call my daughter who had a hard time
this year with ADHD a "retard".

Use ya grey blob lads.

This is a normal post I was mirroring the absolute quality of his point and the drama.
I have lots to be offended about personally, I choose not to, usually.

"If a fat 45 year old retard calls a obese 43 year old retard a "retard"

Why does their weight affect this?

If a person calls another person a retard, it is not OK. It is hate speech. It is illegal in the UK.

I think by "so boys" you meant "soy boys", which is racist.

Cock wobbler is fine. I think you are a twat, not a nigger. There is a massive difference.

This is a normal post Point well made.
Weight in this context is not of the disability
kind, but obviously the sort that is gained by
eating too many Cheetos while choosing to remain
in mums basement while not getting any exercise
nor fresh air.

On a forum, we should all refrain from calling
random people specific and targeted to be
hurtful names. Andnif someone slips up, they
should be called to order, then they must edit their post.
If they do not, warn/ban em'. If they come back,
report em'.

I think we agree on certain specific name
calling, but not on how to treat it. I deeply distrust censure, and advocate for the slow
process of education:

If you ban someone from using the word "retard" that name calling idiots remains unconvinced
that it is a bad thing. And if all communication
is cut with an auto-ban (sorry to our German friends) then there is no possible learning moment.
Educating that person out of that position is
hard work, but can only be done by the slow
process of teaching - or the law if it gets out
of hand.

I don´t want the word "retard" to be banned
because if a very educationally challenged
person should chose to call me that, it would
not be hate speech, be funny and even weirdly
a bit honorific.

Sure, banning specific words does not help much; I might want to explain about retarding my carburettor, or the tasty faggots I had for breakfast.
Worse if I live in Scunthorpe.
I'm not asking for words to be banned.
I'm asking for zero tolerance for hate-speech.

This is a normal post I agree with most of that (though your stance against censure seems at odds with banning people), but I side more with Sock on this issue of hate speech.
"Retard" can be an excellent verb but is always a shitty noun.

Transgressive art and humour must have a place somewhere and I expect a lot of the people using terms like retard, spaz, and other bigoted words and phrases, think it's edgy transgressive and ironic. I'd even go so far as to accept that sometimes it genuinely is.

It can be hard to tell the difference between real bigots and those behaving like bigots for the sake of their art/work/performance/whatever. I lean towards the idea that bigots reveal themselves in their acts of bigotry - their use or permissiveness of bigoted language for example.

Being callaed a "Retard" really sucks for any disabled child, growing up.
It's akin to a child with questions about their sexality constandly hearing "gay" used as a pejoritive in internet chats...like game rooms... "that was SO gay LOL". Imagine the cumulative effect. Gay="bad".
Like being called "nigger" because your skin is a different colour, or "faggot" for kids with geender issues.

It's hate speech. "We"- b3ta - should have zero tolerace for it.
