It doesn't matter how good the show is if I can't abide the main character. I'll stop watching pretty damned quickly.
Star Trek Lower Decks seems to be going the same way.

I saw the trailer and thought it looked proper shite
but so far it's the best Star Trek since ST:Enterprise (which in my opinion was the best Trek since TNG). Certainly more watchable and less insulting than the dirty backstreet abortions of Discovery and Picard.
ST:LD is a copy/amalgamation of Final Space and The Orville, but they were derived from The Incal and TNG - and I love those things. Lower Decks is fanservice/fanwank, but after all the pain and suffering since the dumb movie reboots I think Trek fans deserve some uplifting and optimistic material.
