Key point for me, though, is what data is collected in the first place. If (and I concede it's a big if) it's properly anonymised before the data is collected, I don't see the problem.

re: data anonymised - not really, since it really depends on what other databases exist now and in the future that could be used to cross reference the data. eg using the data from Tesco club card dataset(which has your name etc) with a machine Learning algorithm - I suspect the data would be able over a period time, able to identify a lot people. This will only get more detailed with time as more information eg facebook? your browsing habits which are also collected by ISPs and given to many many agencies etc.. etc...

and also allowing US multinational's to analysing the data to then start the bidding process for select GPs. has the UK government ruled NHS from the treaties with the US? no! what better way would there be for them to understand the UK healthcare market

This is a normal post Cradle to grave data, minus whatever the dear old ladies working part time at the GP surgery understand needs to be removed.
I like the idea of truly anonymous medical data being used constructively, but I have no faith in this or future governments to keep it anonymous, safe and secure.

Centralising government databases never ends well.

As soon as it is online it will be well worth selling to the US, then apologising afterwards and a public inquiry (after the election).

This is a normal post Lawsuits are usually for people with money*.
They are unlikely to admit that is why they are refusing services, the same way it is difficult to prove discrimination at job interviews.

*although I have beaten the DWP at tribunal.
