This is a link post Guy hacks a “TV Guardian” from the ‘80s
TV Guardian from the 80s that is used to filter out filthy naughty language from the TV in real time and also remove it from subtitles.

The interesting thing here I think is two fold, the ingenuity to get access to the data on the EEPROM chip as well as the list of “naughty” words that are programmed into the chip.
