In general, in 2026 it's older people who get excited about AI, overuse it, and spread AI slop. Younger people seem to treat AI like washing machines - useful but boring, up to the point of the mass unemployment threat.

Before deep learning and post the AI winters, people just called it machine learning, because "artificial intelligence" sounded ridiculously pretentious and misleading. I don't think machine learning as a method is shit. We've all been using it in some way for years. But AI products like the ones you had to deal with definitely are and should never be released

Machine learning as a phrase is usually referring to stuff like image recognition. LLM has become sufficiently specialised to deserve it's own treatment separate from say using image recognition to spot cancers in x-rays and stars in telescope data. That special treatment is to say "fuck it" it will end everything of value

A lot of ai videos that are packing out social media have no human prompting at all, they just recursively generate themselves from viewing and user data.
so we're not talking about somebody who's automated some minor tedious task in a long process. it's outsourcing human creativity to a probablistic code model. all those choices and even the words, determined from some LLM that polls vast librarys of stolen content. It's also why the humour is pretty lame. It's not really inventive, it's derivative by nature
