
his films are generally without any form of compassion and tend to end badly in a depressing "I could have done without that" kind of way.
Dancer in the Dark (the one with Bjork playing a blind woman who is sentenced to death) is a relatively cheery musical one if you want to dip your toes in at the sunny end.

When I realised it was all shot in a black room with set markings I thought "oh no." But I really warmed to it. Not enough to value his auteuristry though.
