FUCK
THAT!
I couldn't even finish watching. I don't think I have a fear of heights, but I can't go anywhere near cliff edges or long drops, because I always have a worry for some reason i'll throw myself off.
I'm not suicidal at all, I just don't trust myself not to just do it for some mental unexplained reason, if that makes sense.
I cannot comprehend how someone can do that job without safety equipment. I would be paralyzed with fear.

I get the same thing
but mine's more to do with dropping something important and losing it forever, even if I'm not carrying anything. And also the throwing yourself off bit.
It's worse when there's a large body of water at the bottom too.

Riggers are a mental lot.
I did a climbing course for my apprenticeship with a mobile phone network. In the uk all towers have anti fall system for the ladder part of a climb it looks like this. It moves one way along the rail and locks in the other direction. I didn't do the free climb course, at the top of a 40-50 meter tower I climbed, you wouldn't believe how much it moves at the top in just a slight breeze. Scetchy stuff.

heights
Many, many people have that "compulsion" to let go on a ladder, or whatever, that you describe. It may be an instinctual quirk with the end result of us being TERRIFIED that will happen. Perhaps it is related to the fact we are born with only two fears: that of FALLING and that of LOUD NOISES.
