and no, I wouldn't inflict a saturday night in BBB on anyone either. The Palace though is largely harmless fun and only over the road.
Anywho - my vote goes to "start in Colston Yard, or the Ship Inn and see what happens from there"

Ship Inn is also cool with me, I'm not massively fussed. I got chucked out of there once about 4 years ago, haven't been back since.

The Palace
is probably closer in glamour terms. It's all gold, red velvet, sequins and drag queens.
But then I've always been absolutely mullered by the time I get there, so my perception may be a bit off.
The Ship is deffo the best option.

I think it got closed down
