The structures are resonated at a particular frequency, and any acceleration displaces the central mass which slightly affects the frequency.

I'd prefer to see a mobile phone with a mechanical gyroscope, which you had to keep winding up by pulling a string whenever you wanted to use the orientation sensitivity thing
