A parachute wouldn't open in time, in all honesty. You can get quick opening ones, but it still takes about 2 seconds to be fully opened, and then you're still travelling until it's drag effect has fully kicked in.

Besides, it only has shoulder straps. I'd expect at least a waist band, if not a full five-point harness.
