For some reason
I've never had the same reaction to The Shining. I think that's probably because it was ruined for me by having it analysed in a Media Studies GCSE class.
Oh, and if anyone suggests the Nicholas Cage remake then I'm going to go all pcmechanic.

Yeah, dissecting a film/book for school work'd pretty much kill it.
& yeah, deliberately didn't mention the remake- Nick Cage deserved to be trapped in some kind of wooden-cage-structure & burnt to death for that!
