There is no such thing as the AQ flag.
The inscription is the shahada - the same as on the Saudi flag. It might be the case that some AQ affiliates use a black flag with white shahada - but that has been used by various Islamist groups since the 1990s; not everyone who uses the flag is AQ. Since the rebellion in Syria is largely sectarian, it isn't surprising that there'd be some tendency to Islamism in some sectors.
You shouldn't take your politics lessons from Telegraph photo editors.

Not that I want to back Mr Flaps up here but the BBC was also pointing out Cars traveling under the Al qaeda banner
Which along with other islamist groups is the shahada in white on a black flag. Colour seems to be important to them,Hamas has green and the Taliban white.
