The panic build up in this is excellent.........
I've done this as a kid, what's 'meant' to happen is the fine cotton fibres on new material all burn evenly and at once. So a small even flame passes over the material.
He's obviously not using cotton :P

Did you ever do the trick with lighter fluid on your hand?
I remember we got bored of it after a while and decided we should try it on an R/C car, so we built a little ramp, doused it then drove it out of a third floor window. What a sight it was.

Did that!
We also used to soak sponge footballs in meths then light them and have a kick around at night. Looked great. Ruined clothes.
