to gamble with it like that. Your existence must be pretty devoid of purpose to even consider doing that shit. A gust of wind and you're dead.

I ride a motorbike. I could get a car instead, but bikes are just so much more fun. Part of that fun is the danger element - pushing yourself to take a corner that little bit quicker each time (I'd like to point out, that I do not ride like a twat, I don't weave in and out of traffic, and I do obey the speed limits other than on the motorway, where you'd be causing a traffic jam if you travelled at 70!). I've also done a lot of white water canoeing. Again, I don't need to do this. It's dangerous, but that feeling as you're about to drop down a fall into some rapids is great!
Admittedly those things I've mentioned are probably far more controlled risks, but then again, I've learned the skills I need to undertake these activities, and I guess those kids in Russia have done similar.
It's still mental, and makes me feel slightly nauseous just watching them though!

and mountain biker. What is it about two wheels that just feels so graceful and gives such a feeling of freedom? Still less scary than that, even on the 1100cc Kwak in the rain!

I used to live up in Scotland where the riding is always amazing. Since I've moved down to Dorset it just hasn't been the same. The hills are all too short and gentle. I now have a road bike instead.
But yes, two wheels are fantastic! That feeling of just flowing smoothly round corners is lovely!

Plus it has ample space for shopping.

cars push you to the side as they go round corners. On a bike, all the forces are working together so you just get pushed down into the saddle a little more.
With panniers mounted, I have ample room for shopping too :)
