i cant remember which book it was

I was rereading farewell my lovely the other week and I noticed Phil Marlowe uses the n word, nearly fell off my chair. Don't know how I missed it the first time round. I noticed Hemingway also used the word n*gger in one of his books as a narrator rather than character dialogue too.
