But The Tale of Princess Kaguya and My Neighbors The Yamadas were a bit crap and Pom Poko was just batshit mental.

Yamadas, Kaguya and Pom Poko are all excellent.
They require some understanding of Japanese folklore and culture to fully appreciate, though.

I liked Kaguya immensely
But couldn't get away with Pom Poko last time I tried. This was a few years ago and I've weebed out substantially since then, so it might be time to retry.
