On the olden days money was scarce and people did funny things to save money
Tire rotation was the practice of moving the wheels and tires of an automobile from one position to another, to ensure even tire wear.
Even tire wear was desirable to extend the useful life of a set of tires.
Expect to see the same kind of indicators fitted to the new range of British Brexit Leyland cars from April this year.

I had one of those as a field machine for a while.
