This is a link post The Grambler I made this!
I done gone made a thing for charity...

Wasn't too sure about putting this here as football related stuff never seems to go down too well around these parts, but seeing as the fantasy football thingy got FP'd t'other day, I thought 'fuck it.'

I have realised that my football betting record is atrocious. Always has been, always will be. But this season is going to be different... I am going to entrust all of my accumulators to a spreadsheet with random number generators. It is certain to make me sticking rich! And there's more... It's all for charity! All funds raised will go to The Bobby Moore Fund for Bowel Cancer Research, a charity very close to my heart (and bowels). So join me for a most excellent adventure throughout the footballering season. The first bet will be placed this afternoon.

It's on that there Blogger, Facebook, Twitter and all the other nonsense that the kids are talking about these days. So spread the word and help make this a success, it's for a good cause after all!

This is a normal post Why not just give the money to the charity?

This is a normal post If you read the thing
you'd see that I am going to do that anyway at the end of the season.

It's not just about the money, it's about raising awareness of a charity that does not have a huge profile as it's under the umbrella of the better known Cancer Research

This is a normal post I did read the thing.
And having read it, I wondered why you don't just give the money to charity. That way the charity will (most probably) get more money.

There are plenty of other ways of raising awareness for the charity that don't involve spunking money on bets when it could be put to better use.

This is a normal post It's a pound a week.
That equates to, at most £30 a season. By doing this I have already encouraged at least 5 mates (and hopefully more through the season) who had never heard of the fund to stick a tenner in to the charity.

Here's a simple bit of maths for you: I could have donated £30. My mates have donated £50 already. I will donate more at the end of the season.

Well it seems to me like we're in a positive balance here! And the 'raising awareness' thing appears to have worked quite well as the people who are joining in now know about the charity and will hopefully donate more in future.

Sorry for not running a marathon or adhering to whatever your standards of fundraising are but, you know, the 3 rounds of major surgery along with chemotherapy and radiotherapy are stopping me from doing that. This is something I can actually do!

I am currently at risk of flouncing so I will finish with this thought: For fuck sake, it's for charity! I'll just post a picture of Mo Farah running away from a cat next time..

This is a normal post Oh and I forgot to mention...
I have personally contacted the charity in question to outline my project and they think that it is a great idea and offered to support me and help to publicise it a bit more.

So nyah!
