I like how it gives Mugs some depth and a view of how energy and imagination in kids can also escalate into making little things a big deal to them.
It's very much in character as Mugs tends to creatively over-think his daily experiences and vent frustrations through his art.

I don't actually think the tone affected their enjoyment too much
But they did miss some of the previous silliness of Mugs's imagination.
