I don't know what the U stands for, it might be Unix but you can get it for windows as well.

Universal... as it was ported to all the operating systems and compiled for all the processors.

at first the U stood for "Ununsable", then "Unix", and then nothing at all in particular but is sometimes thought to stand for "Universal" or "Ubiquitous".

Ah, interesting. I always had it as unix. Happy to be wrong though. Its almost my natural state.
