I was really proud of it, it'd taken months at woodwork. Then Barry Kent smashed it up and went off laughing. Just my luck!

You are getting confused. Adrian Mole's father George started a spice rack business, and sold the first one to his Indian neighbour, who's name I have forgotten, embarassingly. But I remember George Mole admiring her "in her pretty Sari". The spice rack breaks, and George is obliged to refund the money - he subsequently gets a tax demand from the inland revenue for his spice rack business.
I do not recall Barry kent smashing up a spice rack.
