This is a question This book changed my life

The Goat writes, "Some books have made a huge impact on my life." It's true. It wasn't until the b3ta mods read the Flashman novels that we changed from mild-mannered computer operators into heavily-whiskered copulators, poltroons and all round bastards in a well-known cavalry regiment.

What books have changed the way you think, the way you live, or just gave you a rollicking good time?

Friendly hint: A bit of background rather than just a bunch of book titles would make your stories more readable

How much have people spent because of this QOTW?
I'm up to at least £45, mainly on Amazon but also recommend:

www.abebooks.co.uk
and
www.thebookpeople.co.uk

I've spent £8

Hooray for Owl. For that is the name of the shop.

Car boots are the way to go
admittedly you can't always find what you want but when you do they're usually 20p.

Oh and Hilda's book exchange in Brierly Hill market rules!

£17
Went out to buy a single book that I liked the look of, and there was a 3 for 2 offer at waterstones, so the bastards ended up with the money I had earmarked for the next fortnights food.

And yes, buying second hand is brilliant. However, it has one MAJOR drawback, especially if its me doing it. There is never an entire series in a secondhand bookshop. You go in and find an interesting looking book, buy it, read it, enjoy it, and then you want to read the next one which isnt in any secondhand bookshops. So then you go out and end up spending an inordinate amount of money on NEW books as well.

if you read the first in a series and like it
then you go to the secondhand books on amazon, find them all from one seller ranging from 1p to about £1 and order 4 books, totalling £1.40 with £11 postage

still cheaper than buying new and pretty much every book I've had looks like it's been read once, or not at all

Books tend to be my biggest outlay all the time
well, out of my 'disposable' income (ha!). I tend to spend around £40 - £50 on books each month. I buy new and secondhand ones and I can't go into Waterstones without buying something. I went into an independent bookshop on Saturday...ended up spending £38 - I was only browsing.

Bastard books, they're evil I tell you, evil.
