Books
We love books. Tell us about your favourite books and authors, and why they are so good. And while you're at it - having dined out for years on the time I threw Dan Brown out of a train window - tell us who to avoid.

FLASHMAN!
Any Flashy fans out there?
If you like your books full of adventure, casual Victorian racism, running away from danger, and the tupping of voluptuous wenches whilst singing "Garryowen", then Flashy's yer man.
Halfway through reading the series the second time and seriously considering growing a set of whiskers (but don't bother with McDonald Fraser's 'The Reavers' as it's utterly awful).

As a Warhammer 40K buff
I've been loving the Ciaphas Cain novels lately which are essentially Flashman in the 41st Millennium. Great stuff.

Truly excellent books. All of them.
And once you're able to extricate the fact from the fiction they are very educational and fantastically well researched.

However...
I never forgave him for writing the Octopussy Screenplay... or Red Sonja. Flashy is splendid though.
