This is a question Books

We love books. Tell us about your favourite books and authors, and why they are so good. And while you're at it - having dined out for years on the time I threw Dan Brown out of a train window - tell us who to avoid.

Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Incredibly long and the author goes off on such long, inconsequential tangents that even he forgets the names of some the (admittedly minor) characters - their names change through the story. But aside from that, it's an great epic with a really, really griping plot. Fab!

It's very long...
Because it was written as a serial for a newspaper. As such he was getting paid by the installment.

However, it's a superb read about how revenge, a vast fortune and a beautiful woman can indeed lead to happiness. A lesson for us all I think.

'zactly!
It's formed the basis of my life plan (though I'm going to try and avoid the prison bit and skip straight to the riches, women and revenge bit)
