I deeply enjoyed Creature of Havoc, despite (or perhaps because of) being irredeemably lazy and winning all the combats by default. There's still a fair bit of work to do in the book if you want to get anywhere, even if you do cheat.

I used to read the FF books
with at least eight fingers individually tucked into different pages, in case I needed to "go back" at any point.
