This is a question Books

We love books. Tell us about your favourite books and authors, and why they are so good. And while you're at it - having dined out for years on the time I threw Dan Brown out of a train window - tell us who to avoid.

Im actually looking forward to digging my future reading list from this QOTW but
I will give you my personal recommendations. Currently top of my favourite books list are:
Anathem : Neal Stephenson (or anything by Stephenson for that matter)
American Gods : Neil Gaiman
Incendiary : Chris Cleeve
Miss Smillas feeling for snow : Peter Hoeg

Does anyone have any ghost story recommendations?

The work of M. R. James has never been excelled for ghost stories.

Ghost Story
Usually they leave me cold but I rather liked Ghost Story By Peter Straub.

oh yes
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. Creepy and insidious

I Love "American Gods"
I'd go for Blood Heritage and The Bones By Sheri S Tepper for Ghost/Supernatural stories - if you can get them anyway.
