Similarly,The Clash said "Should I stay or should I go?" But later on they said, "If I stay there will be trouble, and if I go it will be double." Simple arithmetic tells one that staying will lead to half the trouble of going. The answer is therefore self-evident.

ah but...Was it total amount of trouble or trouble over a given period (day, week, etc.)? If it's the latter and he stays then he'd have more trouble overall.
