I totally agree with this idea except rather than auto-collasping the threadI suggest that code could also be added to the User Profile to "Allow spam flagged content" or "hide spam flagged content" where after 5 individual b3ta members (not L-platers) have clicked to flag it as spam thereby giving some control back to the individual.
